Phil, you've come up with the nearest I'm ever going to get of a picture of my apprentice days workplace, brilliant, this is what I remember of the street.

I doubt if John had started work when the trams stopped running, and previous to that probably like myself he walked everywhere because it was all he could afford. The only time we used trams, buses or trains were on days out to the Lickeys or Sutton Park.

SB, I cycled on a brand new bike I bought from that shop next to Digbeth institute,(can't remember the name) it was £37 at 7/6 a week.

Its Dr Tighe's house & surgery on the corner of Ashted Row and Vauxhall Rd. he ran his surgery from there before he moved up to Dr Topping's surgery on the corner of Willis St.
