Oddly enough I knew the Angel beter than I did the Lester Tavern as I never used the Lester Tavern but I and most of my family used the Angel at one time or another. Here is a photo of it in its heyday, I have to tell you that in my opinion there were much better pubs in the district.

Here is a photo of SB's local before it turned into something useful Although I shouldn't say that because I don't really agree with converting old banks, churches and other such buildings into pubs when they are closing down some really good pubs in some really fine buildings.
I see the landlord of the Bennett's ? was in the Evening Mail complaining about all the pubs that are closing down in Birmingham. Perhaps if he had took on one of the pubs in danger it might have helped.

Sorry SB
I thought you said it was the old Bank on the corner of Waterloo St , well the Wellington is another converted building. It was either a bank, buiding society or insurance offices. So what I said still stands.

SB,
I think at least until the mid 80's it was the Birmingham Community Relations office and The Birmingham Rents Office.

I'm only saying mid 80's because possibly that is the last time I was up that way. Next time you go in ask, you might be surprised.

June I went to La Dolce Vita many times. It was a really good place I thought. I walked seven miles home more than once.
Yes SB, It was five miles there and seven back.
