I forgot to mention earlier that the old Talbot Pub / Tearooms in Church Road, Yardley has been boarded up for at least a couple of months.
As it was a private dwelling it seems a bit odd that it can be left empty. does anyone have any info on this?

Volty

I don't know anything about it, though I will say that if Birmingham City owns any interest in it, then you can say goodbye. The usual procedure with listed building is board it up, scaffold it off from the public and wait for it to fall down after the mandatory arson attack.

Yes Phil, I am well aware of the routine and that's what concerns me. It is built on what must be parkland and so probably belongs entirely to the city, who else can afford to keep properties empty?

Then the best thing you can do is to galvanise your local Residents Association into some sort of action. Isn't SB a member or is his a different Association?

One group historically known for this is the Church of England.

SB, surely you know of the Talbot Inn on the right as you go toward Yardley Church from the top of Blakesley Road?

Well now you have you SB, you will have to find out more.
I discussed it with Signman early last year and there is at least one photo of it on this forum, possibly the one where the Yardley fire station can be seen in the park, by the Trust School.
The pub is marked on some very old maps and eventually changed into a tearoom when the Ring o Bells opened. Sometime later it became a private house, which you have walked past many times.

Believe it or not, as a scruffy Sheldon Kid, I very rarely ventured up into Yardley, except maybe into the park.

When I was swanning around in my early teens it was our meeting place twice a week, known as the 13 club, don't ask me why, had a few chat-ups with girls in there, it should be a national monument.

This looks a little like my local used to look after a busy weekend, only it looks a lot tidier.
