Sheldonboy, I asked about John Warwick on the group and got this reply:
Hi. I went to school with John and he was my ex husbands best friend. He was our best man and a truly great bloke. We lost touch with him over the years and when my ex (Bob Harrison) tried to track him down more recently he had no luck. We feared he may have passed away. I would love to hear otherwise off anyone. His real name was John Watters

If so, then I am sorry to post this.....
John Warwick: Started off on the Night Express with one of the funniest ever night time programmes on the radio - it was always a 'must listen'. John moved on to the Good Morning Mercia breakfast show (which must have been when Gordon Astley left the station). John presented Good Morning Mercia until around the middle of 1984 when he left Mercia Sound and moved on to Northampton where he joined Hereward Radio which was opening its Northampton operation in October 1984. John, very sadly, is no longer alive.

Yes Volty thats my old mate John, I hadn't seen him for about 35 years. I was very sorry to hear about his passing. John was a quietly spoken man, when I knew him he had a great sense of humour.
From a schoolboy all John wanted to do was to be a radio presenter. He did school disco's etc, he did the disco at the wedding of one of my nieces.
He was a DJ on Hospital Radio at Walsgrave in Coventry as a volunteer. He worked for a while for The Dransfield Novelty Company, I introduced him to the local manager who employed him. They were the fruit machine company who looked after our machines and Juke Boxes at The Chestnut Tree pub in Garretts Green.
His first real radio breakthrough was when he was hired by Radio Birmingham at Pebble Mill. (later to become radio WM).
while he was working at Pebble Mill we went to the Isle of Wight camping for a week. While we were there the owner of the site asked if he would do a disco for them. So we went down for the weekend (this would be July 1976). He didn't get paid but they paid for the petrol/ferry and our food and drink.
John was one of life's really nice guys, although I hadn't seen him for many years I often wondered where he was. I will miss him.
I have been very lucky in my life, I have had some very good, sound friends who have gone a long way in keeping me on the right track. you don't always stay in touch but just occasionally we bump int an old mate from the past and and kick it all off again don't we Volty.
