Geoff,
Would you mind me asking what map you have used above 'cause that is one very clear map. Is it one that I can get anywhere.
Good to see you on the site.
Lynn.

Lynn, hope Geoff doesn't mind me answering your question, the maps are published by alangodfreymaps.co.uk at about £2.50 each,
Be aware there are nearly 40 to cover the greater Birmingham area alone, but you can obviously just buy the area you are interested in,I have about 20,and intend to get more, very informative usually with a photo or two and relevant information appertaining to the area.

That's right Lynn.
The map was scanned from the Alan Godfrey Birmingham Old Ordnance Survey map Sheet 14.05. 1902-1911.
There are five maps covering Birmingham. 14.05 is B'ham Central, and there are 13.08 B'ham West, 14.01 B'ham North. etc. etc.
Sheets for most suburbs of B'ham, Dudley etc. are published as well as most populated areas of Britain. They are currently £2.50 per map incuding postage.

John and Geoff - Thanks for the information.

Geoff - How are you getting free postage on the Alan Godfrey site. When I put it in there is a £1.00 for postage - I don't mind as the price is very good but if I can get free postage that's even better. Let me know what you do to get the free postage.

Lynn
The maps are very good and amazing good value. Similar ones from another firm, who haven't actually done any of Birmingham yet (I haven't actually ever bought any from the other firm, just seen the adverts) are £9.00 or so. The coloured ones they have recently started for some maps (slightly more expensive ) are even better. I will admit I might be a bit biased though, as I have written the historical notes for one of them and am doing them for another at present

Mike,
I do realise that they are exceptionally good value, and very, very good and clearly illustrated maps at a very good price - just won't like to miss out if they are giving away free postage.

I'm probably mistaken about free postage, it is a few months since I purchased any maps but something made me think postage was included.

You only pay one lot of postage, so if you get more than one then the postage for the others is essentially free. Maybe that was what was in the back of your mind

Ashley Passage that ran from James Watt St to Ryder st at the back of Central Hall when this photo was taken in what looks to be the early 50's. Earlier at the start of the 20th century it was said to be part of the notorious gullet.

Winkle, yourself and others had a good chat about Waterloo Passage on this thread in March 2011, see post No. 39 onwards.
