From the BBC This afternoon…..
Several people have been killed after a bin lorry crashed into pedestrians in George Square in central Glasgow.
Police have not confirmed reports of up to six fatalities but described the crash, outside Queen Street station at about 14:30, as "very serious".
Eyewitnesses reported the bin lorry moving at speed up Queen Street before hearing a bang as it crashed into the Millennium Hotel.
Several people were seen lying on the ground following the crash.

An awful tragedy apart from the huge loss of life there must have been some horrific injuries.

Can you drive these vehicles on an ordinary licence?. For HGVs there are pretty strict medical tests run, and it can be seen from this that they can cause as much damage as an HGV

The driver wasn't fit to drive and then lies about it.
He is going to get away with killing six people because the Scots are half wits and only see it as an accident.

this will be no consolation at all to the families of those who died....brings to mind now when my sister started having driving lesson in her late teens...all of sudden she had a couple of epilectic fits and they stopped soon after but she ditched the idea of driving..that was the sensible thing to do even though in her mid 50s she has never had a fit since..

That was the sensible thing to do Lyn. A secretary where I worked suddenly had an epileptic fit at work. She had been driving and her colleagues eventually persuaded her tp tell the DVLA, but it took a lot of effort to persuade her

I think all drivers should have medical tests every couple of years
