Newman Brothers Coffin Fitting Works

hi all...last week i went on a candlelit tour of the old newman bros works in fleet st...restoration work starts in the new year and all the artifacts that have been put into storage will be bought back into the works and it will be re opened as a museum to the public..i managed to get quite a few pics and to be honest was really chuffed with the way they came out considering we were virtually in complete darkness save for a few candles dotted around..brum was known as the city of a thousand trades and this must surely count as a most important one...the factory only closed in 1999 after 100 years of trading so if when you are researching your family history you see on the census returns a rellie whos occupation was coffin furnature dresser then this is where they would have worked...will post a few pics shortly just sorting them out...
