Hi breeze

hello and welcome to you, you are certainly not wrong about the mess they have made of St Barnabas. I think there is a conspiracy among architects to fob us off with this type of rubbish Birmingham. We don't see many similar examples like this in other Cities. I thought they had gone mad when they rebuilt Coventry Cathedral but looking at some recent examples of rebuilt and replacement churches I'm beginning to thing that Coventry is a work of architectural genius.

hi breeze and welcome....so pleased that you agree with us about this blot on the landscape...i was in erdington a couple of weeks back and got a close up view...if the architects in this city had half a brain they would be dangerous....hope to hear more from you and dont forget to pop onto our open all hours thread...its a little place to go to say hello and generally have a chit chat...

Oh yes Lyn the Architects have brains alright they also command a heffty fee. The idiots are the people who agree the crazy designs and are afraid to look dim and tasteless. Then things are built at double the original budget.

Hi All and thank you for your welcome

I suppose thinking about it I dislike most buildings made of metal Apart from St Barnabas church which I rate as YET my number one hate....a very close second is Birmingham .It reminds me of the terrible seaside resorts of Blackpool and Rhyl.
On saying that I have no problems with metal in its right place.I love Spitfire Island,The Birmingham Bull and the Minor at Brownhills.

Doesn't external steel fabrication have to be maintained against corrosion then checked and certified as safe on a constant basis?
Old stone churches have survived many hundreds of years with practically no maintenance at all, which is fortunate because that's how much of their own money the church is prepared to spend on it's buildings.

Maybe that shows how much confidence the church authorities show in the continuation of the Church of England .

I would think that confidence in all religions save the one that is the cause of most troubles today is at an all time low.

If it wasn't for most religions there wouldn't have been so much trouble in the past.

that is probably because there are 'humans' in religions SB (as people who aren't religious e.g Stalin etc, have been known to murder one or two)... and many humans who only have it outwardly and not inwardly.
e.g. love your neighbour as yourself cannot be bad, surely (and has done so much good, if we look carefully).
and the 'love passage' in1 Corinthians 13 - if we all lived by that this world would be 'heavenly.'

You are right Marion, there are humans in religions. In the last few thousand years humans have done their level best to wreck this planet. the greatest Architect in the world is nature. Who keeps trying to change it man. Nothing wrong with that of course if it is done with a bit of thought but usually its driven by mans greed for wealth and power.

I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left.
