In the last two years 16 member of Birmingham Council have failed to pay their council tax on time. Two of them have had to be put in court to recover what was owed. How dare these Councillors set themselves to say how much council tax the rest of us should be paying when they obviously can't afford to pay it themselves?
The thing that I find the strangest is, that the Birmingham Mail states that a total of £4,400 was owed by these 16 Councillors over the last two years. Where do these Councillors live in orange boxes, my Council Tax on my single property over two years amounts to that much. Do you think it was an error and the right amount was £44,000?
they should be thrown off the council. whichever party they are from they ought to be ashamed of themselves. trouble is these days its a job not a vocation where you actually tried to help the local people,

Steph you would get the same answer from our wonderful Councillors that you get from our Scumbag MPs of all parties." I did nothing Wrong" personally I would hang the lot and I would pay for the rope.

I am Serious.
I keep hearing Warblings about ketting rid of the Royal Family, not a perfect system I know.
But I couldnt think of many people in the whole of our history that I would want as president.
Certainly none of the Scumbag Vermin around today. Councilwise or Parliamentary.

Why have a president? If we must have some sort of a figurehead then why must they have any political power at all. Isn't that what we elect parliament for?
Phil
You've just proposed a use for the queen, without the slimy missbegotten relations of course

Exactly Mike I have no objection to the Queen as a figurehead, because that is what she is, but I do object strongly to the luxury she lives in and I have even stronger resentment to all the hangers on.
Even luxury becomes tiresome and mundane.
The Queen wouldn't be safe in a two bedroom council house in Elephant and Castle, would she?

Agreed, but then why does she need so many palaces paid for by the country when she owns so many mansions of her own?
It's what makes us British, Phil.
If you mess with it you will break it.
What if the queen stands down, where will the incoming monarch live and holiday? They can't take over this Queens personal property and they may not have their own.
And all this talk of what is paid for by the country needs to backed up by actual figures and then compared to some other forms of public spending.
As far as I know the royal family costs the country less than £1 per person. This was quoted in a radio interview recently so I don't know how accurate it is.
I for one would rather buy the Queen a new yacht than fund university places or build community centres or provide immigrants with council houses, etc, etc.

Nothing wrong with funding university places if they are proper courses, not golf or media studies, or worse still, politics; and also providing that they are for students who have worked for their place and are capable of doing the courses, not those who say " You've changed the goalposts , i was expecting a grade A and should get one even if i am crap", like some of the students so vocal in the last few days. No doubt i will receive some flack, but nowadays the educational system, and the teachers, seem to think qualifications should be to do more with a pupil's self-esteem than with whether he deserves them , or whether they do anything towards helping with whatever job he intends to do.

The other thing is that colleges want to be perfectly clear with those they are selling courses to, because lets be perfectly clear that is what all these new type of courses are all about making money. They tell applicants that a result in some of their courses are the same as "A" levels when they are talking utter rubbish. My granddaughter passed all her grades with distinction but was still not accepted by any university because all the places were filled by students with real "A" levels.
I would completely agree with you Phil, but isn't it even worse that your granddaughter's school presumably never gave her any advice as to what were the correct courses , or worse still if they advised her to take the wrong ones.
