Perhaps the Salicylic acid was for helping with the pain and skin irritation associated with having irritant acids and a spirit burner to play with. Hot flame, hot glass, hot water, molten Sulphur, hot spitting solutions, acid splashes, etc.
I had a lot of small burns.
Yes Volty A pint of Smiths can do that to you.
I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left

I used to go to Hoggs in Sand Pits / Parade for my chemicals. He sold them to me in large test tubes with a cork stopper.
I think the glassware was my favourite part of chemistry.

Yes I've always been attracted to glassware. although filled with a different type of chemical.
I never really consciously made the connection there Phil but I have always been fussy about the glasses I serve drinks in,
Whisky isn't the same from a Port glass, for instance.
Now I see where it comes from. I will have to dig out my glass stoppered reagent bottles and put them into service.

Anyone interested in Railways, both model and real might be interested in Pete Watermans activities.
He owns a factory in Crewe where steam locomotives are built and restored, called London & North Western Railway Heritage Company Limited.
He also sells a range of O Gauge (1/48 scale) model railway kits and he has a brilliant O gauge layout based on Leamington Spa station.
