We have a new member who originates from the Tile Cross area scoobyflyer, I am putting these few photo up for him. If anybody has any more or any information or stories of the area I'm sure he would like to see and hear them.
Scoobyflyer I have to tell you that it's no good asking me anything about the area as I know nothing about the area other than one or two local pubs that I used through the years.
By the way it might be a good idea to introduce yourself on the Welcome thread as not everybody looks through all the threads.

photo 1 is now just a pile of rubble, and could someone tell me where photo 3 was taken please. shirestone road still looks the same, the brick bike sheds have gone , as has the small wall along the grass edge, and the trees are all matured. the flats are now a cream colour , as are most of the houses (council paint), mine is still the original brown pebble dash though. shops still look the same, would love to know what shops where there when this was taken. i know that the centre shop was a wool shop, which is now an indian take away.

As I have said my knowledge of the area is limited to a few pubs, I know the shops look old but in 1950 they weren't listed in Kelly's in the 1967 directory they were listed as following,
253 Cooper Mo. S. confctnr
255 Bowen Bros, greengros
257 Wrensons, grocers
259 Gosbell Ltd. butchers
261 Lesley's, confctnrs
263 My Cellar Ltd. wines &
spirits
265 Simpkin's. S. fried fish dlr.
Mike has far many more resources for this sort of thing than I do, perhaps he can tell you when they started trading.

A few photos of The White Hart through time.
1. 1896
2. 1948
3. 1985.
A few more photos of the area going back a couple of years.
The Bell Inn
Cooks Lane with The White Hart again
Shirestone Rd flats
Shops Bell Lane.
In reply to Phils mention of Tile Cross road shops, I can be a little mpre close in dating. In 1955 and 1956 nos 255-263 were there, and by 1962 253 and 265 were also listed
