The Queen has conferred the title and office of Lord High Admiral of the Navy on HRH Duke of Edinburgh on the occasion of his 90th birthday. It's one of her own titles.
I wait with relish to hear Phil's take on this one.

I was about to make a post on the same subject. My comment is that it sounds like something from Gilbert & Sullivan. The whole system of the Royal families of Europe are a bit like a comic opera, so that is appropriate. Prince Charles is undoubtably his son Nanki-Poo (in love with Yum-Yum), while Poo-Bah (Lord High Everything Else) is presumably the prattish Andrew. And, of course, all the Conservative government are a bit Ko-Ko !!
I'm not sure who would represent Michael Fawcett , who put toothpaste on the Royal toothbrush ( is that a euphemism) . Mind you Nanki-Poo probably didn't need him after Yum-Yum came along.

He's my favourite, so what does that make the rest of them?
I think we should scrap the government and put them in power.

Scrap the Government, are you mad !!!!!
They shouldn't be sacked or scrapped, they should be bloody Executed. Don't forget these heathens have a bit of a history of returning no matter what they have been guilty of.

Don't worry when Charlie gets in this is exactly what he wants an Autocracy.

It doesn't matter what Charlie wants, that's why our system works as it is. The monarch is not there for the power that he/she has. The monarch is there for the power that he/she denies anyone else. In the same way our democratic system (such as it is when people bother to vote) denies the Monarch overall power.

The titles sytem in the royals reminds me of the T.V. awards. Whatever they like they give an award to. I suspect they have a locked box which is shaken, then opened and whatever comes out first (no matter how obscure) is handed out. Who cares?

Who cares I do for one.
Handlebar, I understand that you are no Royalist neither is Phil. But in my eyes the alternative for this country would be an absolute disaster. At least if you don't like the powers that be at present you know when the next election is coming.
At the moment the Armed forces and The Judiciary through the Lord Chief Justice swear allegiance to the Crown, can you imagine if The Air force were loyal to Cameron and the Army was loyal to Tony Blair. Then we would know trouble. How many countries would take the British as refugees, not a bloody lot I say.
As I have waffled before The Crown is not there for the power is holds. The Crown is there for the power that it denies anyone else. So It costs money worth every penny. If every citizen of this country was as loyal to this country as the Queen what a country it would be.
