Yes, this is the same Sir John Holder as Holder Road in Yardley.
Then you have 4 of his daughters:-
Kathleen Road
Geraldine Road
Flora Road
Gladys Road
All running along side Holder Road.

I know of no books on directories or electoral rolls, though I would think genealogical books might have something. You can see some directories on http://www.historicaldirectories.org , and Birmingham is lucky with electoral rolls, in that I know of no other town where any are available online . It is not every year, and it only includes people registered at that address for voting , and the voting qualifications have varied over the years (ie in general no women listed in 1912).
These are available at http://www.midlandshistoricaldata.org together with access to some directories.
Anyway a few other snippets. I have two addresses for Henry Holder in Hanley Castle : Yew tree house, Roberts End(1870) and Lansdowne House (1879) . Between these two years he and the vicar paid for trees to be planted in the Hanley Castle churchyard. Henry sold Yew tree house in 1876 for £7500, which is £500,000 today (http://hanleyswan.net/history/families/medley/ ). A picture of the Yew tree house staff in 1886 (after he had sold it) is at http://hanleyswan.net/gallery/yew-tree-house-staff-c-1886/ . The accompanying picture may be Yew tre House. It is now called Yew tree house guest house, but I have another rreferenc ethat says theold Yew tree house is now called “The Firs”, and can’t find that place at all, so maybe they changed thename back again. I cannot find Lansdowne house , so it has probably been demolished or changed its name. I think I have found the registration of his death in the first quarter of 1880 (Jan-March) Ref. Upton on Severn 6c 199. you would have to get the certificate to get exact date of death

Mike,
A lot of information to look up here. I shall start by Emailing the guest house and see if they can be of any help. Will let you know.
Also, All these other Websites are new ones for me. Thanks I do appreciate all of that.
Mike - May I ask, what do you mean by that you found the registration of his death - in the first quarter of 1880 Were did you look that up?
Again many thanks for your help.
Lynn.

Mike,
There is a Lansdowne House in Malvern, WR14 2AS Mabe he moved from Hanley Castle to Malvern.
It would have been a plot of ground on which is now built flats, retirement bungalows at the back and houses.
On one side railway line - on the other side an old low stone wall that runs for quite a while down the road, that may very well have been the boundry for the house.

That's very possible Lynn. It wouldn't be moving very far. I searched for the death in ancestry. You would have to get the death certificate to be absolutely sure it was the right one, but it is the rightname in th eright place, around when it might have happened

Mike,
I've found it in a Shovell's Dictionary Book of Birmingham that I have and it was Jan 27th 1880 in his 70th year. Thanks.

On the other thread SB you said she was only interested in bed. Maybe that's what she has been doing -turning her bedroom in to a Pub

I sorted you one or two more Holders pubs out, I didn't think there were so many and there were obviously more. The only thing that makes me feel a little ashamed is quite how many of them I managed to drink in.
