I hope this is not the end of the tie. If a man wishes to, or is expected to wear a suit then I think that man should wear a tie. he looks a scruffy mess.
Yes if you are a a party, dancing etc or if the weather is very hot of course you will take it off. But a suit without a tie is just Slovenly.

Disagree entirely. Presumably you would like to reintroduce the ruff, another useless piece of rubbish

"But a ruff". Is that a euphemism for something?

Personally, I like to see a man in a suit wearing a tie in the right circumstances. Anyway it is down to the individual!

A man not wearing a tie at a funeral is disrespectful!

Then there is the bow tie, a dinner suit without a bow tie is so wrong.

Apart from a function, personally i almost always wear Rugby shirts (would look silly in a Tie). But a suit without a tie is a fashion I don't like.
Another thing I don't like is a man in a pair of trousers with a full length formal shirt hanging out. Rugby shirts , T shirts, Polo shirts etc no problem. If anyone doesn't want to wear a tie, no problem. But why bother wearing a suit.
Something my wife hates is a man who wears socks with sandals. Apparently they look like a Beatnik (remember them).

I thought beatniks did not wear any socks. would agree that there are some occasions, like a funeral when a tie looks right (though probably only because we expect it to). there are many occasions when a suit, with a tie, is worn for no good reason, other than is expected. The revolting pin-striped suit is an example of an really ugly invention, and reminds me of a butcher's apron

Must agree Mike I'm not keen on a pinstriped suit. I do like a double breasted suit. When they are in fashion.
