I hadn't used a bus for years except for when on holiday until I retired. Prior to that if there was any reason for me not driving I just got one of the lads from work to taxi me about.
I think it was earlier this year when I broke my glasses and it took the opticians 5 days to replace them, I had to use the bus on two occasions. Three things surprised me, one was the cost and how expensive they were, the next was how surly and unhelpful the drivers were, last of all the condition of the buses (do they clean them at all now).

So I'm back. I won't bore you with the details.

Actually, I will.
The first bus was a 90, looked fairly standard from the outside but the inside was like another world. A grubby, filthy, smelly sort of world. The seating was straight from an infant school, very narrow seats and so low to the floor that you can't see out of the windows. I don't know how old arthritic folk ever get out of them.
Then, after a brief but interesting first visit to an Aldi, where I managed to spend a whole £9, I was on a No.11, the people were more disgusting than the bus this time, but at least I had become accustomed to sitting on the floor by now.
Both drivers were very polite, and good steady drivers to boot.
All this, and more if I want it, for only £3.60.
I may leave my car until tomorrow as I think going back in the rush hour tonight may prove too exciting.
