I have one one my forearm, a ship of course from my teenage days on a fishing trawler. I have never lost a job because of it, however for 10 years I was a sales manager for a well known property company which was located in the posh part of the city, I got the job because although born in brum, I went to school in Oxford, due to both my parents dying before I was 5. So my english accent was more Oxford. But I was banned from wearing short sleeve shirts or even think of rolling up my sleeves. When I left there and moved across to the other side of the city to take up a position as a project marketing manager - the rules changed, wear whatever you like, so for the last 11 years summer or winter, I have worn a short sleeve shirt and no tie. The tat has had no effect as far as I can tell. But it could be that it's no longer sailors and crims that have them.

I think the position and subject of the tattoo would make a difference too.

Most manual workers would get away with them. It would seem strange for example seeing a doctor with tattoo's all over his face.

I suppose that would happen if you came across a Maori surgeon. especially with his tongue out, screaming at you.?

In that kind of a job if vhe is the fitter it would be acceptable I think, if it was a national company and he was the MD maybe not.
