i dont know why this sprang to mind but can you all remember having to draw the coal fires with newspaper to get it going..manys the time the paper caught alight..it used to start burning from the middle and work outwards..then we had to screw it up very quickly and it ended up going up the chimney..

Oh yes then the Chimney caught fire and I had to run next door to fetch Mr Evans to put it out.

Yes Idid it once with a piece of cardboard,ever tried screwing up a piece of burning cardboard,got cussed for that good and proper.

Mr Evans was our next door neighbour. My dad died when I was Seven so in an emergency Mr and Mr Evans was summoned. (his brother lived there too).

I can only say that as a youngster I didn't know too much about it. I had five older sisters I was well looked after. Now my wife Jo looks after me.

did anyone elses dad or family grow their own veg..our dad did..used to grow spuds..cabbage..lettuce..carrots.onions..radishes etc.. mind you we were lucky having a very large back garden...
