RIP Barbara Johnson

she may not have been world famous but non the less a great brummie lady who i met a few times..very sad news

-Barbara Johnson Chair person of Birmingham Air Raid Remembrance Association - BARRA
Barbara passed away on Wednesday 30 May 2018 .

Barbara worked tirelessly for BARRA giving her time voluntary .
Along with others Barbara campaigned for a fitting memorial to be erected to recognise the civilians that died in Birmingham during WW2 .
This memorial the Tree of Life was erected in Edgbaston Street near St Martins in the Bull Ring in 2005.

Barbara organised a memorial service to commemorate those who lost their lives during the Blitz. The service is held at St Martin's Church each September.

Barbara and BARRA members would attend Armed Forces Day, 1940's events at Castle Bromwich Hall and Gardens plus local History Fairs.
Barbara was known for wearing her pinny at theses events .

Also Barbara and BARRA would visit local schools and talk to year 6 about the Birmingham Blitz and show the school children memorabilia from the war.

More recently Barbara was saddened that the usual Armed Forces day was not going to be held in Birmingham City Centre this year and to add to further despondency BARRA's WW2 memorabilia was stolen along with the van the night before the Castle Bromwich 1940's event last month therefore BARRA were unable to attend.

Over the years some of you may have met Barbara at one or all of these events and may have watched the T.V Programme Blitzed Cities with David Harewood who interviewed Barbara and other members of the group.
