Here's an example of the US argument to carry arms.

A mentally disturbed gunman shoots three people at a restaurant and runs away. Two gun toting members of the public are on hand to shoot him in the back on the say so of someone from the restaurant.
The gunman got what he deserved but the Police and the NRA are praising his murderers. Anywhere else and they would have been arrested for playing judge, jury and executioner.
