We had a small front garden (3 acres or so) but I know from photo's that dad must have pulled up some bricks in the back yard so I had somewhere to dig. Either that or it was to bury me in.

I remember my Aunt's place was at the back, a big open courtyard. Don't remember her having her own garden space but I could be wrong. She is Eighty now, I will try to get her to share a few memories of it.

She was rehoused into Bordesley Green. They lived there for several years but eventually that part of our family moved to Tamworth. One went and in the end they all went.

Thanks Lyn for sharing these with us. I find it so interesting how we were all brought up. Coming from N.Ireland I had never heard of Back To Backs until I came on to this site, and it gives me the idea that it was quite a community with all the aunt's and uncles and families that were connected to one another, and one did take good care of what one had in those days.
A good solid upbringing with lots of good advice and tips from the older folk and you do have some lovely memories.
Lynn.

thanks lynn..even when i moved from nans back to back into an old house in villa st there was always a sense of community within the street..something that i find is sadly lacking nowa days..everyone knew everyone else in the street..back doors could be left open (mainly cos we had nothing of real value to steal lol)..our mom was always passing the good baby clothes onto other moms to be and then most likely getting them back herself lol...its just the way it was..
