Sorry but I think the Government should get the banks in order and not using our money to give out loans.
I also suggest that the 400 Million pounds the Government is putting into "affordable hosing" is absolute peanuts. Compared to the 6 Billion pounds the MOD spent over the last two years on consultants and so called experts. Still we trust our Government........................................Don't we ?

should the title be changed for this thread?I
Personnally I am all for putting money into providing housing, and would agree that £400million is probably not enough, BUT , call me cynical, I reckon the "poor unprofitable" Housing companies will take most of that as an excuse for putting the prices of the houses up and making more profits in the same way that the banks did with government money

I know little about the housing market but have always assumed that the cost of a second hand house was unjustifiably inflated by the greed of the people who own them, whereas the cost of a new house is directly related to the costs of land, materials and labour.
As the prices asked for new and old are comparable then the builders must be cashing in on the over inflated resale values. Perhaps if I went back to domestic electrical works I could charge for jobs based on a hefty percentage of the price of the house.

Volty
You would get no work, unless you were prepared to be the main contractor and take all the financial risk then like us all you would have to accept what they were willing to pay.
Phil
Phil,
I was thinking more along the lines of minor jobs for homeowners.
Anyway, people seem willing to pay more to cowboys than to bona fide tradesmen so I still won't be getting rich.
