If they tax food and childrens clothing it will be a disaster.
On the pension side they are giving with one hand and clawing back with the other.

the merging of income tax & national insurance looks reasonable at first glance, and would be in a political system nit run by crookedpoliticians. If National insurance was abolished as a separate item it would reduce the incentive for the government to maintain decent pensions and unempolyment benefits, as you could no longer say you had contributed towards it by your contributions.
