Apparently the messing around was done with sticky tape. Maybe all Australian balls should be washed in some solvent (like turps) to remove any such contamination and then polished with emery paper. That might keep the Aussies in their place

Well, apparently I was almost correct. Australian balls are rubbed with sandpaper, not emery paper. But then emery paper would give a very smooth finish, and Australians are a bit rough
