am looking to see if there are any notices in local bham newspapers about a reg morgan who died playing rugby. he died on the pitch.

i have found a reg a morgan on the freebmd dying 1923 in birmingham.

would anyone know if this was him, or any information re a rugby player dying on the pitch.

thanks

He is not on the Wikipedia list (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_spo...ers#Rugby_Union ) though this is undoubtably very incomplete

Hi Mikee

i know i checked. this is still the research i am doing re morgan/rowbotham. my elderly neigbour's cousin announced that reg morgan used to play rugby and died on the pitch.!! i know his son was born 1908 and his mom died 1927 and she was down as a widow, so i checked the igi deaths and the only one that came up was reg a morgan aged 36 died in birmingham 1923. i dont think he was a professional player. according to these two, he owned loads of shops and had something to do with morgans meats, but i could not find a link with morgans meats in digbeth. anyway on the death cert and his sons birth cert it says he a plumber.

is it still possible to access newspapers from the 1900. when is the new library going to open.

for my own part, one of my e husbands ancestors was 'tommy ball' the only league footballer to be shot, he played for aston villa, we have a book on him.

thanks molly

I think the only way to access 20th century newspapers is at the library

I don't know, as i don't live in the area, and have only visited it twice in the last few years but I do know that the hours are very restricted for the next few years while they prepare and then transfer to the new library
