SB

Mike is just magic and dedicated as I have often told him, Mike I'll just add that the Gaiety Cinema opened in the 1920's and in the late 30's it almost burnt down but it was restored and altered and reopened on the 18th December 1939. It closed on the 29th of November 1969 with a showing of The Killing of Sister George, it was demolished shortly after that.

Mike, What can I say, apart from agree with the others. You are amazing how you manage to send something like this when I would have possibly spent the next month getting all mixed up over it. !! So Very Very many thanks.

Now Mike dare I ask, do you think that Henry Holder came to it when it was already the Rodney Inn between 1841 and 1845 or do you think that the building was something else before that.

Many thanks again. Lynn.

Lyn
I meant to imply, but probably did not do so effectively, that it was the Rodney before Holder.
1841 Twist John, vict, Rodney, 89 Coleshill st
In the earlier directories no place numbered as 89 is listed, and there is no entry for Twist. There are , however a lot of unnumbered businesses, including two pubs, so it might have existed before 1841, but have no confirmation.

Thank-you ever so much Mike - I'm all sorted, in my head now. Must get to meet you all, at some stage, when I'm up in Birmingham. Lynn.

Hi Phil,

Thanks Phil, That was a nice picture to make me happy on a wet Monday morning.

Am off now to Chichester to have lunch with my son - wish the weather would clear up - some more sunshine please, now that the garden has been watered.

Lynn.

That's a coincidence Lynn. I was born & bred in Chichester. Don't go there often now though

No problem Lyn, I will always take a copy of anything I see relating to Holders & the Gaiety that I come across now. Hope you have a nice visit to your son.
