As The Rodney and its successor pubs were all mixed up in with the concert hall, have included both
Henry Holder came to the Rodney Inn (89 Coleshill St) between 1841 &1845..
From 1845 (and earlier) - 1852 it was just known as the Rodney Inn/Tavern
By 1855 it was the Rodney Inn & Music Hall, andit was also such in 1858.
By 1862-63 no 87 was llsted as Rodney Inn and 88 as Holder’s Concert Halll, but they were run by Soward & Gardner
1867 Nos 67-90 are Holders Hotel & Concert Hall & winw & spirit merchant, run by John Soward junior.
1868-73 Nos 87-90 The Birmingham Concert Hall. John judd & Co, proprietors & wine & spirit merchants
1876-79 Nos 87-90 The Birmingham Concert Hall. Phillips & Choules, proprietors & wine & spirit merchants

Mike is just magic and dedicated as I have often told him, Mike I'll just add that the Gaiety Cinema opened in the 1920's and in the late 30's it almost burnt down but it was restored and altered and reopened on the 18th December 1939. It closed on the 29th of November 1969 with a showing of The Killing of Sister George, it was demolished shortly after that.

Now Mike dare I ask, do you think that Henry Holder came to it when it was already the Rodney Inn between 1841 and 1845 or do you think that the building was something else before that.

I meant to imply, but probably did not do so effectively, that it was the Rodney before Holder.

In the earlier directories no place numbered as 89 is listed, and there is no entry for Twist. There are , however a lot of unnumbered businesses, including two pubs, so it might have existed before 1841, but have no confirmation.
