Afraid I have no sympathy with anyone who wastes lots of money gambling, and have no urge to do so myself , but my comment would be : if there REALLY was a sign saying it was malfunctioning, then they knew it malfunctioning. If the machine was REALLY malfunctioning then it should have been turned off so no one could mistakenly put money in it. Therefore there is no doubt she should get the money, and the company should be fined for attempted fraud

My take on what the sign actually says is more along the lines of " You can play this machine at your own expense, all payouts are a malfunction and therefore void". The sign is displayed on all gambling machines.

American casinos are notoriously underhanded and have the policy that if you win then you are cheating. The woman was lucky to get out in one piece, in Las Vegas she would have been taken round the back for a good kicking.
