When I worked In the pub trade in the 70's, we used to sell around 100dozen Sam Browns a week. M&B in their wisdom replaced them with Toby Brown. sales dropped drastically, Manns brown sales went right up which meant that Watneys did well out of it. Sam Brown never returned at that time. SB

The only time I ever drank Sam Brown's was when I occasionally drank a brown and mild. I think you could probably list these times on one hand. Never was much of a beer drinker of any sort.

People used to rave on about different ales, like M&B Ansell's,Davenports, Watneys, Banks and all the rest of them. To be honest I thought they tasted like the proverbial cats water.

To be honest, I was relieved when lager came on to the market in the UK. I wouldn't say it was the best drink in the world but at least i could drink it. I have to be honest the only time I drank pints of any kind was when in company.

All the pubs I drank in everybody drank pints of mild including most of the women.

Talking about Domino cigarettes, are Park Drive, Woodbine & No 6 still on the market or have they gone. They must have been 3 of the best selling brands at one time. Everybody I knew smoked one brand or the other.

Morning,
Never had a cigarette in my life, but used to collect empty packets from the streets (think of the germs, but we never caught anything).
Who remembers, PASSING CLOUDS, SWEET AFTON, CRAVEN A,GOLD FLAKE,DU MAURIER, and not forgetting the proverbial TURF with the cards.

When I worked in the pub, I remember we sold Craven A and Capstan Full strength. I also remember Embassy and Players Number Six with the tokens in, you could smoke yourself to death for Two years and go and get a free toaster. SB

It must be getting on for five years since I packed it in. I was on a minimum of 60 a day. I still reach for a cigarette now sometimes when I am engrossed on the computer then I suddenly realise there are none there.

What it was us folk from the rough end of town had to smoke so that we could breathe the air down in the slums. It protected us from the contaminated air from the gas works and the stench of the open sewers that ran down the middle of the street. Then there were all the dead bodies from the plague lying around everywhere.
