It seems WWII bombs don't explode unless you know they are there.

I saw a tv programme a while ago. A family had a bomb on the mantle piece since WW2. The thought it was safe. Someone recognised it and called the police. They called in The Army who exploded it on a beach. Apparently it had the power to take out around 8 houses.

It seemed a bit strange to me that a bomb that had been lying in the mud for a few years suddenly surfaced the day before the boat race.

Things do happen that way.
We ignore the many thousands of incidents that have no bearing or effect on anything, yet we place great importance on the things that coincide with important events.
I mean important as in of meagre interest, there is no possibility that a bunch of floppy heads, rowing boats on a river, can ever be considered important.

Most of them probably only got into university because they rowed, Its as bad as the Americans with football scholarships.

its not really a great surprise to me that another UXB has been found so many years after it was dropped...would think there are many more yet to be unearthed..

Could be one in your back garden.
There was one in ours, the day it was dropped that is. It either went off or was removed, I can't remember if the wardens book said what happened to it.
Bang goes that theory then.
