Pop-ups

Thanks Astwood.

If it is a jpeg you can upload it as an attachment to a post, just as you would with a photograph.

Latest from Xobor regarding the pop-ups.
Hello,
we are using pop-ups but I can't tell if these are our pop-ups, as long as we don't see the advertisement. Please post a screenshot from such advertisement and make sure, the browserline with the address is also shown on the screenshot, so we can have a closer look at it.
Regards, Alice

My response after getting a pop-up on a tablet.....
Hello Alice,

The source of the adverts is: http: //img.sponsorads.de/global/rotate.php?
The delta wars ad shows the postscript: goto=5&r=delta_wars&s=

This seems to be Xobor's doing.

The use of an X in the top right corner is very sneaky. Most people take it to be a close button but it actually opens the advertised site in a new tab or window.
Some of the pop ups have no obvious way of closing them.

Regards
Voltman

Xobor says......

Hello,

our technican checked your forum and found the pop up. It can be closed with the left button in the right top corner or with the button "Fenster schließen" (close pop up/window) on the bottom of the pop up.

Regards, Alice

No chance. It's Xobors new way of advertising and/or pushing forums into paying. They are here to stay.

I use an Adblocker on my Mac so I don't see any adverts whatsoever. My iPad on the other hand does show them, if it was to show pop-ups all the time I would stop visiting the forum on it.
It seems to only show pop-ups when I'm not logged in.

Never logging out might be the answer to that.
Logging out, according to Xobor, deletes the cookie that keeps you logged in.
If you stay logged in you are recorded as having been subjected to the advert and should not see it again.
Therefore just close the page, tab, window, whatever, never log out.

I think Xobor have made a mistake. They have the typical bullying german attitude, they think that if they make it difficult enough for us to stay free we will pay to get rid of the adverts.
Wrong. We will just provide a smaller and diminishing audience, but one that is more anti advertising then ever before.
