St. Swithin

#1 by Voltman , Fri Jul 15, 2016 7:43 am

15th July is St Swithin's day, in honour of the day he was dug up and moved indoors, over one thousand years ago..
It rained on that day and the forty days thereafter.

According to the rhyme….
St Swithin's day if thou dost rain
For forty days it will remain
St Swithun's day if thou be fair
For forty days 'twill rain na mair

What I want to know is how locally is this applicable?
If it rains somewhere in England will it then rain everywhere in England, or if it rains in Kingstanding will it only rain in Kingstanding for forty days and leave Yardley alone?

Everything is the same now, we can get Easter Eggs for six months of the year, Christmas starts around September and Father Christmas works a double day shift instead of just Nights now.
