I think they should be treated as cigarettes. They emit a chemical vapour that may not be safe for anyone to breathe.
The law protects people from being forced to breath such emissions in their place of work and it is the legal duty of any employer to ensure the law is complied with.
So the pub manager was quite right.

I totally agree with Volty. Smokers have always been selfish, so they wouldn't care anyway.

I like to go for a drink and a meal now and again, but with emphysema and bronchitus i find it made a great difference to me when no smoking laws came in ,so i'm with the landlord.

Anyone can have habits and pastimes, but when they affect other people, give it up. Cigarettes stink.

Smoking is absolutely not essential in our daily life at all.
Drinking on the other hand is.
Don't forget years ago there was very little fresh water. If you had a stream or a brook in the village the chances are someone would have piddled in it by the time it got to you. Some countries made wine, most places brewed beer or Ale (anyone know what is the difference)? The reason for drinking wine, Ale, Beer and even cider was that it had to be boiled to make it so it was safe to drink. In this country different households took in in turns to brew up as of course it takes time. When a house had a new brew ready a Sheaf of Wheat was stood up by the door to show villagers and passers by where to get a fresh drink. This is why so many pubs have been called The Wheatsheaf.

My "locals" were the Crown in Broad Street before they turned it into what it is now, and the Granville (Westward Ho!) on Broad Street before they turned it in to that horrible Irish Pub. I do remember them being extremely smokey and the smell of our clothes when we got home.
I just spent a few days with my sister and her friends all smoke e cigs now when they come around. Trouble is, they seem to smoke them constantly because they feel they are more healthy for them than real fags. Reminds me of the old Malborough adverts :-)
