Did caddy spoons have holes in them?
June
I said John could carry it in his pocket, I wouldn't want to I don't even drink tea.
Its been hanging around in my junk drawer in my office for about 20 years since I found on a job, its a souvenir of Edinburgh. Its silver I think ,well its hallmarked.

Maybe not holes as such, but I thought maybe they had patterns punched in them.

It's not a caddy spoon, but at the same time the holes are too big for it to be a strainer.
Remember the teabag spoons/squeezers, like a double spoon on a bulldog clip.
I thought it might be for fishing pickled onions out of the jar as its from Scotland and you know how common we jocks are.

T think it is a mote spoon, though probably later than the rather ornate ones pictured on the net
Mote Spoon
I quote:
One of the most unusual and intriguing forms of collectable spoon is the mote spoon. It’s purpose has caused much debate, it’s use as a punch, tea or lemon strainer, sugar sifter, olive spoon, caddy spoon and others have all been put forward as possible uses. The most likely use however was to skim the surface of tea with the pierced bowl to remove the floating solids (motes) and to use the pointed terminal of the stem to poke inside the spout to remove blockages.
Mote spoons are generally teaspoon sized and were made from the late 17th Century through to the 1770’s. They are generally bottom struck twice with the lion passant and maker’s marks. The pierced bowls vary from simple round holes to elaborate decoration. Beware of Forgeries
