#1 by Voltman , Mon Feb 01, 2016 11:00 am

A cargo ship which is listing badly may run aground on France's south-west coast tonight.

"A Stricken cargo ship, The Modern Express is heading for the French coast."

I can't understand why ships fuel doesn't have to be in totally leak proof tanks by now, it can't be that difficult.

It's probably down to cost , if it's expensive forget it ,wildlife don't matter , money is more important .

If the tanks were any more leakproof you wouldn't be able to get the fuel out to run the engines.
This ship isn't an oil tanker, the 300 tons are its own fuel supply and I don't think the risk of spillage is very great.
