A victim of its own success perhaps. The article says that seventy percent of all those built are still around.
You can't say that about many things.

Evening Astwood, The Landrovers are a bit iconic I can only see them increasing in value.

I drove a really old one occasionally in the late seventies.
Manual windscreen wipers, too many gear sticks and when it was going about 35mph it seemed more like 70.

I agree the two gearsticks were confusing when not used to them, but without them I would not have been able to get to some places in the bush in Ghana when I was there in the 70s

One one occasion I was out in deep snow and after parking outside the gaffers (owner of Rover) inlaws house in Atlantic Road, Kingstanding, no amount of gear ratios was going to let me up the camber and out of the gutter. Resorted to backwards and forwards trickery. Then again I had no idea what I was doing with the extra gear sticks and I always thought there were three of them.
Possibly.... 1 to 4, High or Low ratios, 2 or 4 wheel drive.

I think there were two on the one I used, but it was 38 years ago.
Yes SB, a very interesting experience. Got to one village far out and got presented with a flower by a young boy (no comments please), who had never seen a very blond man before and was fascinated by me. Lovely people the Ghanaians, very friendly (and the girls).
