Old Bottles From Birmingham

thought i would start a new thread for this topic folks for those interested in old bottles...will kick off with this one that was given to me the other day....

JOHN WILLIAM THOMPSON..BURLINGTON ST ASTON...from kellys ginger beer manufacturers from 1895 to 1900 and was at no 62 burlington st which was next to burlington st school...very lucky to have a photo of the premises which in later years was occupied by E W SMITH...you can just see the railings of the school in the photo...i do have a few more bottles and will put them on soon...

Well done Lyn sounds an interesting one, you may be able to get some pictures of some at the BCM

volty burlington st school was on both sides its just that it is not marked out as such on the map...i went to lozells girls but we used burlington st school as an annexe for cookery..needlework and pottery...just goine to post another bottle

here is another bottle i have...name of landlord adam powell on it...60 lozells road

...adam powell was the landlord from 1881 to at least 1888 leaving the pub by 1890 when j m knight became landlord..adam powell was a great supporter of billiards..setting up a billiards hall in the pub in 1885 and set up an exhibition match between john roberts junior described as champion....i am also posting an old photo of the bell. not sure what would have been in the bottle but i dont think it would have been beer.more likely brandy or whiskey i would think....the last time i was down that way the bell had been turned into an indian carpet shop...can date the photo to between 1895 to 1901 when george astbury was landlord and we see his name on the pub...wonderful pub to turn it into a carpet shop is tragic but at least i have this bottle and i dont think there will be many of these around..

Importer and Bonder of foreign wines.
There couldn't have been many of them about.
