You are quite right Mike, my only excuse for not knowing this is my age. I was only ten when they were introduced and I have always confused them with the APT.
I am reading a book about BR in the fifties and sixties and the HSDT is mentioned as a 125 MPH Diesel, reminding me of what you had said.

Just caught up with this piece. Mallard holds the world record for a Steam engine at 125.88mph no other steam engines have come close.
