Another Air Crash in Taiwan

#1 by Voltman , Wed Feb 04, 2015 7:30 am

Another ATR72 Prop plane has crashed in Taiwan with 58 people on board.
An identical plane, also with 58 people on board, crashed there in July 2014.

The photo shows a car braking and turning to the right but it hasn't reached the part of the bridge hit by the plane. The eye witness could not have been any closer than the camera or he would be in the photo.
The problem with the photo is that we are not used to seeing an aircraft in this proximity to known objects.
Our sense of proportion is being tested.

I think the bit about the plane hitting a taxi was an assumption based on the photo, where concrete dust can be seen ahead of the car. Even if the taxi was hit there is no mention of the driver, which you would expect. Also it seems unlikely that a car would fare well in such a situation, it would be knocked into the next postal code rather than sustain light damage.

On TV they showed the taxi with its roof caved in and gave a translation (which admit you have to accept is accurate, but the original chinese voice was in the background, so presumably could be checked by someone who speaks the language) of the cabs conversation with his controller, in which he says "I;ve been hit by a plane", reply :" a model plane ?" taxi driver: "No, one with a pilot"
