My first job was for a Photofinishing firm in Camden St Hockley. We did the developing and printing for about 400+ dealers including Boots, Timothy Whites and Taylors and loads of others. It was called Munns Brothers. if any kids told the youth employment people that they wanted a job in Photography thats where they were sent. It was like a cross between a Workhouse and Stalag 14. I started on £4.10s per week. I did meet some good people there one of them is still one of my mates and that's from 1966.
I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

I can remember strutting round Birmingham city centre with a few bob in my pocket feeling like I owned the world.E ach purchase carefully considered.
I sometimes think of those days when life was oh so simple.
I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

I was paid on Thursday night and still had half of it left when the following Thursday came around.
£13 was plenty in 1975, if you didn't go down the pub.
Perhaps a shirt or some photographic stuff, an electronics mag and a fiver for housekeeping.

My first job was at Rabones in Whitmore Street Hockley, left school end of term July, 1941 on Friday I think it was and by Monday, still Thirteen and still in short trousers, my job, standing on a soapbox cause I was too short to reach the Vice, was to file the brass ends of the wooden rulers and also the folding part of the inside.
Is that great long factory still there, stretching from Ford Street around into Whitmore Street? I know that Rabones (Chesterton)are now on Spring Hill where the Old Cinema called the Palace theatre once stood

Oh we had Discipline alright. My first Job was at Munns Bros Camden street. It was opposite Gestetner and down the road from Bullpits, the Swan Brand people.
Our Boss David Willey was a past president of the Magic Circle. A real Victorian type character along with his two sons Mr Laurence and Mr Graham he ruled the place with a rod of Iron.
We were processors for many chemists and dealers including Boots and Timothy White.
We processed around 10,000 black and White films a week.
I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

Mine was the co-op bakery at Stechford. I was one of the rounds people who with the driver delivered the bread to houses in the electric bread float. I remember going with my mate up town to the main co-op and sitting an exam. I got the bread job and my mate got the co-op butcher job he went for.
