I don't think the original ones were encased in plastic bags. They used the bags from dead bagpipes

No mike original Haggis was Moo cow nuts marinaded in whisky and porridge and eaten by Caber Tossers. These were employed by Highland Chieftans to repel marauding Yorkshire pudding herdsmen.
