I came across this today at Sheldon Parish church. A funeral bier made in Sheldon around 1880

I think they were very common at one time, but now only seen in museums ( and on one occasion by myself as a table displaying cakes in a cafe at Moreton in Dorset)

At a church near us it's quite a walk from the road to the entrance,so funerals there use a collapsable one of those to carry the coffin ,you hear people looking on say, it's the last time they will go on the beer.

I can remember my family talking about my great grandparents being taken on one of those wagons to be buried in Inkberrow in the early 1900s
