although he did survive WW1 i thought you may like to see this photo of my grandad albert ernest wood (moms dad) dad left me in charge of all the old family black and whites but last week my sister turned up about 6 that we didnt know about and this was one of them...chuffed to bits as i had given up hope of finding any of grandad wood who served in the royal field artillary..he suffered the effects of the gas a couple of times but continued to serve until the early 1920s...his health was never the same after and he died in 1938 aged 50 leaving a wife and 3 young girls...the photo was very badly damaged but someone has very kindly tidied it up for me....grandad is back row first on the left and a very strong likeness to my 2 brothers..

Bet your proud of him lyn ,sounds like he died young ,because of what happened to him in the war, my grandad would never talk about it to anyone,said he rather forget it.

yes jo i would agree the effects of war did not help his health at all and yes i am very proud of him...wished i could have met him...its amazing the amount of folk i come into contact with that say their rellies just refused to talk about ww1 but now that i know the horrors these men enjured i can fully understand why

They still do Lyn many times I have watched the old boys stand in the rain and foul weather remembering their mates.

Tonight on central news ,the land girls have at last got a memorial statue at the national arboretum.

So were my moms sister,and some friends,she told us that they enjoyed it but it was hard work.
