Thanks to the reporting of this in the press there will a lot of phoney applications made now, further exacerbating the problem and therefore increasing the probability of success.

i know someone who applied for her children and husbands passports over 4 weeks before going on their holiday to spain which was all booked up..panic stations as they had not arrived a week before flying out...got in touch with local MP said passports arrived with 3 days to spare but they had to pay extra...

That would be a good idea Cleo. What would have been a better idea would have been not getting rid of staff in the first place as part of this Governments cuts.

Its just like the child support agency fiasco a few years ago. Those in charge lie, and then, when someone leaks and proves the lying , they have a witch-hunt. There should be a witch-hunt, but they should be hunting the incompetents in the agency and within the government.

exactly mike...on a passport form it says allow up to 3 weeks to receive your passport...maybe that should be changed to allow up to 6 weeks...
