I'm here again with memories,if it gets to much somebody please tell me. Moms brother george went through the war in the merchant navy.He was on one of the first ships to bring bananas back after the war,be about 46, he gave mom one or two,we kids had never seen them before,mom had to show us how to peel and eat them, i still recall that first one it seemed so different to apples or pears,oranges were only for christmas if you were lucky.

Re That black and White dog, we had two dogs one black and white the other Brown and white, Dad could not afford the licence so he put them on the mantlepiece.

Yes the yard was at the top of Pitsford Street but across the road actually on the corner of Crabtree Road and All Saints Street, thanks for that tank engine and the Photos, I never did go up to the stables but well remember the Horses, tried to stop one once as it got loose and racing back home to it's stables along Clissold Street, good job I didn't manage it.

Good job it knew the way. I used to know an old chap years ago who worked with horses. He told me of a time when a big horse collapsed and died in his street. It was a hot summer and it was a long time before the Knacker could collect it, he said the smell was awful. Just imagine one slice of meat gone off in the fridge can stink the house out.

Anybody remember a milk place in nursery road handsworth ,hockley area it was wathes cattel and gurden on its carts was wacadens milk, they delivered to mom after the war,the horse got use to mom taking him a crust of bread.If mom forgot the milkman would knock the door because the horse would'nt go any further till he had his crust.They are not dumb animals.

Was watching a programne yesterday about Harrogate and a thought popped up. Does anyone remember going on the british rail mystery tours on a Sunday. My mom used to go to new street , buy 6 tickets (all priced at a £1 each) then Sunday morning we would try to be 1st on the platform so as to get a compartment to ourselves. We had some great trips Barmouth, Torquay, Paignton, Rhyl, Llandudno, but we were really disapointed when we turned up in Harrogate bucket and spades in hand. Happy days

Errmmm non exisistant lol . I wasn't into old buildings then so Harrogate was so boring.

We could'nt afford holidays, but our special treat in the 6 weeks holiday was a trip all round the outer circle route,number 11 if i remember ,mom even took pop and biscuits.

I would imagine your fellow passengers were a bit different in those days Joe.
