The current council are there because they got the most votes. You always assume that the non voters wouldn't have voted for them, it's not so.

I do know that I am not a "telly hugging lazy git who doesn't get off his backside to go and vote".
I don't vote because I am smart enough to see that I do not have a choice of the best of the best but only a choice of the least worst of the worst. I pass by the polling station but feel no obligation to join in with the pointless and endless shuffling of self serving candidates for the gravy train.

When I did have the urge to vote, many times in the past, my chosen candidate never won, so I can only deduce that the majority wins regardless and even apathy doesn't get a look in.

yes what a u turn..personally I would not trust any council so why would I want to vote for them..this is just another case of empty promises..i agree with you slow jo if it's not in our wonderful city centre (said tongue in cheek) then it's expendable..show me someone who is dedicated to fight for our heritage buildings and I will vote for them....too much money spent on other large projects and the city is in major debt...absolutely disgusted that Moseley baths is now under threat but no way am I surprised..here is what they promised last year to obtain lottery funding as they did with the Nechells baths some years back...what a dam joke from a bunch of jokers

In the eighties I used to visit every swimming baths in Birmingham, at least four times per year, to do my job.
This involved my going into every nook and cranny, so I got to see a lot more than just the public areas.
Even then most of the buildings looked like they were falling apart.
The atmosphere in public baths is very corrosive to building materials and if left unmaintained the condition rapidly deteriorates. I remember concrete walls bursting open exposing rusty steel. Tiles, paint and plaster falling off walls and ceilings. Steel fixtures and fittings, such as changing booths, just rotting away.

The baths I remember are:
Saltley, Nechells, Moseley Road, Stechford, Stirchley, Sparkhill, Selly Oak, Erdington, Harborne, Handsworth (old & new), Kingstanding (old), Northfield, Newtown, Wyndley, Castle Vale, Great Barr, Linden Road.

The Woodcock Sports Centre houses Birmingham’s oldest working swimming pool, but the building we know and love today was not the first baths on the site. The original, Gothic styled building opened in 1860 and provided valuable bathing and washing facilities for local people as well as a swimming pool. These baths were later demolished and replaced with the first part of the building we have today in 1902.
