It turns out that this is The Burton House pub. This is the pub that was lived in by some of my ancestors in the late 1800s.
The one on the opposite corner is nothing to do with us. This part of Hunters Road was called Little Hunters Lane at the time.

it certainly is volty and just to clarify below is a photo that i took a few years back of the building..all of the white building was the pub.. and also one taken in black and white probably 1950s or 60s..if you look at the left of my photo you can still see where the name the burton house was..either painted out now or covered up..will take a better look next time i am down that way which is quite often..

I copied the 1939 Kelly's entry for Sampson Road. if that's of any interest.
As the photo in post facility is broken I have started a folder in the Picture gallery for the purposes of this thread.

I found a 1948 newspaper item about the rebuilding of the bombed wall at Christ Church, the picture is rubbish though.
