I would think £200 would cover about one visit to a GP. The trouble is with charging small amounts like this foreign visitors will look on it as they are now entitled to treatment and it will only put more strain on our NHS.

Instead of a fixed charge wouldn't it be a better idea to require an insurance policy. Depending on age and circumstances there could be two or three charging bands.
I agree no one should be allowed into this country without travel insurance being in place. As for myself I simply wouldn't even think about travelling abroad, anyway I would hate to think of the insurance costs for my wife and myself.
