Unusually I watched some of this on the TV news last night. apparently all the ships crew were the first of the ship including the captain. Only the kitchen staff and domestic staff remained to help the passengers.

Wasn't there a similar case to this a few years back?

Its just like eberywhere else Phil. As HMS great Britain is in trouble, then all the "captains of industry" (Branson, Green, Blair, that crooked treasurer of the tory party who lives in Honduras, etc all get out quick, leaving everyone else to drown

Mentioning Branson, do you think it's his plan to buy Britain, I don't thing anybody should be allowed to wield the power over people that he does.

At least Richard Branson is British. He doesn't run a foreign company. As for power achievement he has a better track record than our last few governments>

The only trains I have travelled on in the last 30 years are Virgin. Twice local Solihull to Moor St for which I have no complaint, and once New Street to Brighton which was absolutely appalling. It did about 20 mph all the way to Reading where it had to be taken out of service.

I went to the buffet car to get a couple of cups of coffee and a woman was arguing with the attendant because she was 20p short of the price of a cup of coffee. I said to him can't you let her have seeing as how the train is over an hour late so far and she should be home by now. I got the usual reply "Its more than my jobs worth". So I bought the woman a coffee.

When the train terminated at reading there was no one to tell us where to go or what train to get. We ended up on some train that must have called at every town in the south of England because it took ages to get to Brighton.

If it was a through train and more than about 5 years ago then I know exactly which train you mean from Reading. Used to catch it if I was going to Chichester from Reading. If it is any consolation it would take even lomger nowadays, as the "improvements" removed the through service , and, with the exception of about 1 train every day (when ther eis one change) I have to change at least twice.

It was over five years ago, and it was supposed to be a through train. I think the train we caught from there was a local train hence it calling at every station. I know we were about three hours late in total. Some of the passengers missed their flights at Heathrow, they were hopping mad.

Is it too late to point out that it was a cruise ship that rolled over? It is not connected to Mr Branson in any way.
It is, however, part of the Carnival Cruises group who also own Cunard.
I would just mention that Cunard ships are ocean worthy ships with a hotel on board, Costa cruisers are sea going hotel blocks welded onto a barge.

A court in Italy has convicted five people of manslaughter over the Costa Concordia shipwreck off Giglio island which killed 32 people in January 2012.

Life is very cheap unfortunately. We build bigger and bigger planes and ships, faster and faster trains just look at Spain yesterday 80 dead the driver will go to jail but if he had been late would probably have had the sack
.Luckily we don't have too many disasters but to the familys of all of the dead the problems and nightmares are sometimes endless.
Usually most things are down to saving money.

just a thought, there are only three or four companies that own cruise ships, Carniaval owns all the Carnival ships, Costa, Cunard, P&O uk, P&O australia, Princess, Aida (germany), Holland America, Seabourn, Ibero, they used to run the ocean village ships but they now belong to P&O australia. they have A REVINUE IN 2011 of US$15,793 BILLION - they have had some messy stuff, concorida, carnival triumph but overall they have a very good safty record. and last the concordia was a cruise ship - the Cunard queens are Liners there is a huge difference in the designs of the ships if you do a trans-atlanic run take a liner

You lost me a bit there TCA, if Ocean Village went to P&O Australia and P&O Australia are owned by Carnival then what really changed?
Or are you saying that Ibero used to own Ocean Village?

We did the first transatlantic on Victoria. I got some lovely shots of QEII running alongside. Due to her (QEII) greater power she would drop back every night and then catch up on the opposite side.
One morning we woke up to find her outside our balcony half submerged, that was a great shock until we realised it was fog and not water.
