Tower Block Fire in Kensington

#1 by Voltman , Wed Jun 14, 2017 12:57 pm

How can this happen here?

Apart from probable contractor damage to fire breaks it appears the external cladding was made from wood and/or plastic.
It has happened in Dubai and everyone knows how and why, so how can the same errors be repeated in our nanny state as recently as 2016?

"London fire: Six killed as Grenfell Tower engulfed"

"A huge fire has engulfed a tower block in west London, having broken out in the early hours of Wednesday."

quite easily volty....knowing city councils as i do they most likely used cheap labour and cheap unsafe materials to tart up this block of flats...oh and a back hander for whoever signed the job off

its an awful tragedy that could have been avoided and i sincerely hope heads roll for this

As a Safety Rep in the Paper industry, I always used to say (There is no such thing as an Accident, there is a cause (sometimes not obvious) but always a cause.
I was asked to define an Accident in College, My answer was
An unexpected occurrence causing shock, damage or injury. Not always someones direct fault, but there is always a cause.

I agree it looks like the cladding was plastic, supposedly for heat insulation. The half burnt stuff on the ground looked a bit like expanded polystyrene. Cannot believe that this sort of material was permitted under present fire regulations. It was only recladded last year.cutting costs. In that case all the directors should be strung up, preferably in a burning building

Everybody concerned are saying they complied with all relevant safety regulations.

Oh Dear. If that was true we are all doomed.

Apparently, if a report I saw is true, the cladding was aluminium backed with polyester, though more expensive mineral-backed panels are available. Polyester burns very well, so it can be no surprise to a normal person, as opposed to a councillor or accountant, that this could happen

Mike don't you realise, it takes a committee of 20 people 2 years interviewing 50 experts and 400 witnesses, and deliberating for another year to come up with that answer.

Yes, I know, but it only takes 10 minutes or so for someone to get lynched, and, if the usual crooked lawyers are allowed to perform their dubious manoeuvrings then that might happen

The truth is like an opinion. It varies depending on whose truth it is.
