I think there is a difference in the two peppers my wife says she can tell the difference.

I prefer white pepper, or my mix, on baked beans and soups and such things. Freshly ground black peppercorns are for steaks and gravy.
Black pepper just doesn't look good on many foods because it looks like grit or contamination.

The easy way to find out is to taste them blindfolded.
If it wasn't for the visual effect I'm not convinced I could tell them apart. It is something to test out.

I totally dispute the idea that black and white pepper taste the same.

My pepper pot is a mix of white and black ground pepper, allegedly they taste the same and white is best for things where black would look like contamination, I just prefer a mix.
My grinder is black only.

Don't go much on white ,but it's jans favourite ,she says black pepper is like fag ash.

I like Black Pepper, but I also love white pepper especially on a Bacon and Tomato Baguette, a good dose of white pepper is superb.
